Tashi Viewpoint

  • Tashi View Point is one of the major attractions of Gangtok and is located at a distance of 8 km from the town.
  • The place is a must visit for nature lovers as it offers great views of the imposing Himalayan mountains, specifically Mount Kanchenjunga and Siniolchu.
  • Located at an elevation of 3,753 m (12,313 ft), the lake remains frozen during the winter season.
  • The lake surface reflects different colours with change of seasons and is held in great reverence by the local Sikkimese people. Buddhist monks prognosticated after studying the changing colours of the lake.
  • Also, you can enjoy spectacular views of Labrang Monastery and Phodong Monastery, which are located near the view point.

Kabi Lungstok

  • Kabi Longstock is a town in the North Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim, approximately 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) north of the capital Gangtok.
  • The town is the location of the site where a friendship treaty was signed between the Lepcha chief Tekung Tek and the Bhutia chief Khey Bum Sar.
  • The location of the signing is marked by a stone pillar. It also has a small Buddhist monastery.

Twin Waterfalls

  • Kanchenjunga falls, a beautifull sight ! Water gushing from one side in a funnel sort of way and on the other side covering the rocks almost 30-40 feet wide.
  • At the bottom of the twin waterfall in a small dhaba you get chicken curry & rice with country chicken which is a rarity these days.
  • This is the largest waterfall in Sikkim. It is located 15 km away from Pelling.
  • Water splashes out from granite rocks in plumes of white in Kanchendzonga waterfalls.
  • The sound produced in this voluminous and swift waterfall engulfs all surrounding noises.

Bhim Nala Waterfalls

  • The Bhim Nala waterfalls ia probably so called because of its size! Bhima, one of the Pandavas in the 'Mahabharata', symbolises huge size and strength. So does this waterfall in rainy season.
  • It might look a very small waterfall in the picture owing to the frozen source of water at the time it was shot, however during the monsoons it is in full flourish and offer a great view.
  • The sound of the huge volume of water dropping can heard from far off.
  • Each has a different beauty attached to it. Bhima nala is situated near Lachung, on the road to Lachung from Chungthang.
  • A small view point just to the opposite offers a beautiful view of the falls.

Yumthang

  • The Yumthang Valley  is a nature sanctuary with river, hot springs, yaks and grazing pasture on rolling meadows surrounded by the Himalayan mountains in the North Sikkim.
  • It is at an elevation of 3,564 metres It is popularly known as 'Valley of Flowers.
  • Observe the clear blue sky with a Himalayan backdrop as you walk through the flower-filled Yumthang Valley.

River Lachung Chu

  • The river has its source in a lake, deep in the Himalayas near the Indo-China border.
  • The ragged reaches of the mountain make the place almost inaccessible.
  • From here, the river flows down in a south-westerly direction and joins with another unknown river at a place just above Lachung village.
  • The tributary river is also a slender one with little water in the winter.
  • The river continues its course downwards through the Lachung valley till it meets River Lachen near Chungthang.

Lachung Monastery

  • Lachung (Sarchok) Gompa's small but colourful monastery prayer hall is a two- storey affair with twin metal dragons above the porch, which contains a pair of extra-heavy prayer wheels.
  • Walking here is a great way to get a better sense of Lachung village; you'll pass several great viewpoints from which to appreciate the town's magnificent setting.
  • The Lachung Monastery also known as Lachen Gompa is an old Buddhist monastery of Sikkim situated in the Lachen Valley of North Sikkim
  • This monastery houses some religious beliefs of the Buddhist community along with the statue of Guru Padmasambhava or Guru Rinpochi.
